Here is a first-hand source to help you in your understanding of Pu-erh tea. On our way to Bulang Shan, we visited Ai Xiang Nan in Lao Man E village. After a few cups of healthy and energizing Gushu Pu-erh from his production, we headed to the hills surrounding the village and started shooting.

This interview is slow paced but full of insights if you have the patience to watch until the end. The way information is extracted during the interviews is not straigthforward, as there can be misunderstandings. But this is the chance to have a first hand account. We were along a small road and had to edit out a few moments when a motorbike was passing by, this is a full interview otherwise.

We talk about the recent history of Lao Man E and Pu-erh tea production, the development of the village and of the tea industry since the Pu-erh gold rush in 2007, the different tea gardens of the village and agricultural management techniques used here.

Lao Man E is the largest village in Bulang Shan area, in the South West of Xishuangbanna, Yunnan, China. It is one of the most renowned village in the region and its tea is very pricey. Located close to Lao Banzhang, that part of Xishuangbanna has long been praised for the quality of its teas.
