The founder and creative director of our sustainable fashion brand Vino Supraja was recently honoured with the Global Sustainable Trailblazer Award by the UK Government and the World Tamil Organisation, recognising her contributions to ethical fashion, artisan empowerment, and cultural preservation. As part of this honour, she was invited to deliver a moving speech at the British Parliament.

In this powerful address, she reflects on her humble beginnings in Vandavasi, a small town in Tamil Nadu, India. She shares the emotional journey that led her to shift from conventional fashion to a path rooted in sustainability and social justice, inspired by the values of Mahatma Gandhi, who was revered in her household.

Her speech sheds light on the exploitation faced by women garment workers, the devastating impact of unsafe labour conditions such as the Rana Plaza collapse, and the urgent need for ethical reform in the fashion industry. She makes a heartfelt plea to governments to strengthen labour laws and hold brands accountable, including her own.

Our founder also speaks of her pride in taking Tamil folk art to global stages like London Fashion Week, where she recently presented a collection inspired by Therukoothu, an ancient theatrical tradition from Tamil Nadu.
