Today's word of the day is 'tremendous'. Tremendous is an adjective which can either mean extremely good or very large. The adverb, tremendously, means very much.

In the 17th century, ‘tremendous’ meant ‘terrible’ but the meaning switched in the 19th century.

Some example sentences are:

‘I felt I would be missing a tremendous opportunity if I didn’t take the job, so I accepted.’

‘My neighbours were making a tremendous amount of noise last night, so I called the police.’

‘Last night, Crystal Palace were tremendous, causing Chelsea difficulties all over the pitch.’

‘The party was fantastic. We all enjoyed ourselves tremendously.’
