Here, All My Children welcomes back the legacy character Dr. Jake Martin, played by J. Eddie Peck as of early August 2000. Peck succeeded Michael Lowry, who departed AMC in March 2000 after four years as Jake.
Another legacy character makes her first appearance in any AMC opening: Bianca Montgomery, daughter of the iconic Erica Kane and played by then-unknown Eden Riegel as of July 2000 (following a number of child actors on recurring status).

While both newcomers are added to Version 1, both versions create the space for them with the departures of Forbes March (Scott Chandler) from V1 and Matthew St. Patrick (Adrian Sword) from V2. March/Scott last aired in mid-September after one-and-a-half years with the show, but St. Patrick/Adrian didn't split until 10/31/2000, weeks after being cleared out of the AMC opening.

Walt Willey (Jack Montgomery) slides over from V2 to V1, while Eileen Herlie (Myrtle Fargate) and Abigail Spencer (Becca Tyree) head the other way. Spencer/Becca's image is extended slightly, just enough to allow her to show some teeth. Hugh/Tina's image starts sooner as she appears to gaze at the stars before locking eyes with the camera.

I never liked Ruth Warrick (Phoebe Tyler Wallingford) following Ray MacDonnell (Dr. Joe Martin) at the end. I wouldn't have liked anyone but MacDonnell/Dr. Joe ending the sequence, as he did for most of the "Gallop" era.

The "Gallop" opening gets its nickname from the horse galloping in the middle of Version 1. It is still strange to see anyone's image besides John Callahan (Edmund Grey) in that spot.
