Joseph Jean-Baptiste Laurent Arban (28 February 1825 – 8 April 1889) was a cornetist, conductor, composer, pedagogue and the first famed virtuoso of the cornet à piston or valved cornet. He was influenced by Niccolò Paganini's virtuosic technique on the violin and successfully proved that the cornet was a true solo instrument by developing virtuoso technique on the instrument.

Jean-Baptiste Arban remains, for me, the one who brought the most to the development of the technique (virtuosity) of our instrument. His famous method is in my opinion the bible of every trumpet player. Who has not studied it?
I wanted, with these recordings of the fourteen characteristic studies, to pass on to you the way my Master Pierre Thibaud had taught them to us.
I find them fabulous from any point of view, because it is really a synthesis of all that can be found in the method!
