The reason why wolverine died in logan even after having the strongest healing powers is tragic. Logan begins with Wolverine as a shell of his former self providing the first clue that something is wrong with his character. The scars and bullet holes that once would have vanished remain permanently visible on Wolverine who is in constant physical agony. In the movie we are told that he lost his healing ability because of adamantium poisoning. But it is just half true. Another reason behind it is his age. In the X men movie Wolverine is even older than Captain America having been born in Canada in 1832. This was only possible due to his mutant ability which gave him an incredible healing factor that for a long time seemed to make him almost immortal. So his body could have healed the effects of adamantium poisoning. But being almost 200 years old and excessively using his regenerative ability over the time he lost his mutant geans and succumbed to adamantium poisoning.
