Alfie May rescues Birmingham City from the spot in the 87th minute to earn their first point in League One.

A difficult evening for Blues as visitors Reading proved to be tougher than we thought the division could be.

Young striker Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan deservedly put the Royals in front three minutes before the break as Blues suffered a rusty first 45.

Our control of the ball wasn’t quite there today which was a shame as we created some nice stuff when we had it at times.

But up until the penalty it looked as if it’d be another “typical Blues” day.

May’s spot kick was decisive and never looked in doubt.

New boy Emil Hansson saw his name in lights and went for the screamer but former United keeper Joel Pereira parried away his late winning effort.

Blues had most of the late chances but no other goals were to come and the points were to be shared.

Overall it wasn’t the performance nor the result we were hoping for but it’s very early days and a point is better than none.

Onto Wycombe away next.

The two sides last met in February 2021 where a goalless draw left us 21st in the table.

Fingers crossed a more positive result is to come this time round.

Something similar to the League Cup 1st Round fixture at Adams Park back in 2008 would be ideal.
