50 years of Placido Domingo in Salzburg 2024

At the finale of the Salzburg Whitsun Festival, opera star Placido Domingo was honored with a gala concert. The now 83-year-old performed at the Salzach Festival for the first time 50 years ago. His work and his long-standing commitment to young opera talent have now been celebrated.

Plácido Domingo received a standing ovation at a gala, but also bowed to the young talent. In an interview, the 83-year-old reveals how proud he is of the young musicians he has been able to support over the past decades.

“It was a phenomenal evening”
On Monday, Domingo was on stage together with Sonya Yoncheva, Elena Stikhina and Rolando Villazon - all winners of the “Operalia” young talent development award founded by Domingo. “It was fantastic - I enjoy being on stage with these people, some of them I haven't seen for a long time, others I've performed with several times - it was simply a phenomenal evening,” said Domingo in the ORF interview.
