Lanchhitar Itikatha- Bengali drama-collage using Kathakatha, Jatra, #shambhumitra Prose-drama and other #grouptheatre styles.

For ages, men have exploited their superior status over women. In the Indian #patriarchalsociety, it is the male child who is wanted and the girl child, unwanted. However, the woman is needed to satisfy the male carnal pleasures. She has to serve, nurse, be dependent and subdued. Yet, whenever, a subdued woman faces #insult, the male relations watch in silence without protesting. Driven to the limits of patience, she has protested her humiliation and cried out for #justice, as had #sita, #draupadi and #behula. The cry for justice is still on although they have #equal voting rights. But have the #rights ended with voting only?

We had staged this drama in 2006 and 2009. The mythological and legendary women whom we worship also had to suffer. In 2024, we are still in the same place as we were and still crying out #wewantjustice.
