This week I have settled into a routine which is working well to help me with consistency. By opting to look at my Social Media only in the morning and to focus on my Writing in the afternoon I seem to have found a good balance. Certainly I am able to see steady repeated progress from this timetable.

Routine serves to help my steady word output and so this current timetable will be continued into next week as we work together toward the end of the Nanowrimo programme.

Alongside the improvements to a simplified working arrangement for my morning and afternoon sessions I have been reflecting on the significance of the places in which we write. This week I have written at home, in three different styles of coffee shop or cafe, and also in my favourite library space. Each has their own essential atmosphere or mood for me and I notice this in the ease or difficulties with which I slip into the writing process.

Music and background chatter serve as helpful white noise in one venue, but different music or a certain type of fellow customers might distract me. It is just a question of finding a few writing environments where you can relax and produce the words. When I am in the library there is no music, only the sound of the water fountain in the courtyard beyond the window. This serves as a more reflective space within which to create new words.

If you are involved in any writing challenge at the time you watch this video, then remember WHY you are doing this and be sure to set yourself a stretching goal. By this I mean one which pushes you and yet does not serve to defeat or depress you with it being too difficult.

Stay in touch with your feelings as you write and maintain a focus on the enjoyment of what you are doing. Happy writing.
