Divvy Bicycle Sharing in Chicago enables anyone to use a bike to get around instead of using a car or other options. Divvy can be rented for unlimited trips for $7 per day or used with an annual membership but on each trip the bike can only be used for 30 minutes before the bike must be returned to a rack to reset the trip clock.

Although bicycle sharing could be used for many every day trips, the current 30 minute time limit makes it very difficult to run short errands and to use the Divvy for exercise for some trips. When I talk with my friends about Divvy, the first thing that they ask about is the 30 minute trip time limit and for many that is the reason that they have not considered joining.

If Divvy would increase the trip time limit to 1 hour, they would increase membership and therefore increase bicycle sharing. With a 1 hour trip time limit many more trips become possible such as errands to destinations that are not near a Divvy rack station (out and back to the starting location rack), exercising without needing to be so aware of clock watching and where the next rack will be, and even for business trips such as message delivery. Increasing the trip time limit will increase bicycle sharing and get even more cars off the roads! Why not do it, Divvy?
