There are grants and loan forgiveness programs designed specifically for public school educators. In this valuable video, we'll share four of those funding opportunities with you. Let's start with a student loan program a part of the financial aid program. A student loan can cover 100% of your cost of tuition. At the graduate level, you will need to be enrolled in at least half time status, or greater, to be eligible for student loans. The student loan program offers low interest funding with flexible repayment options. Student loans do need to be repaid. You can defer your repayments until after you finish your degree. To begin the student loan process go to fafsa.ed.gov and fill out the free application for federal student aid. Although different schools may have additional financial aid requirements, we will be glad to get you started on the right path. Another funding opportunity you may be eligible for is the T.E.A.C.H. Grant. Teachers working, or planning to teach in a public low income school and interested in pursuing a high needs subject area degree may be eligible to receive up to $3,724 a year from the US Department of Education towards tuition. To be eligible, you must commit to teaching four years in a high needs content area in your state at a low income school. You have eight years after graduation to meet the four year obligation. If you teach in a low income school you may also be eligible for the Stafford Loan Forgiveness Program. To be eligible for this program you must teach for five consecutive years in a federally designated low income school. You may receive anywhere from $5,000 to $17,500, depending on the area you teach in. And last, is the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. This program cancels the remaining balance of the person's student loans after 120 on time payments have been made. If you were in one of the extended repayment plans you may be eligible to take advantage of this program and have a significant portion of your loans discharged.
