The system produces. It produces numbers, profits, people, masses. It produces more, it produces too much, it produces superfluously. But no matter where one finds oneself in the system, no matter where one is stuck or forced out by the system, the force, the compulsion, remains: one consumes. They who are superfluous consume. They who do not consume are branded.

Branded was created as part of the Stage360 project and based on The Superfluous, a performance based on the essay Superfluous Man by Ilya Troyanov.

Stage360 is a new form of staged performance - a virtual viewing of performances with VR glasses, filmed with a 360° camera from the centre of the stage, followed by discourse on where performance meets technology. The project has shown that performances filmed with 360° cameras, ambisonic sound and customised lighting support offer the audience a completely new theatrical experience, connecting them to the content of the performance in a different way and breaking the classical theatre form where the view is only directed through the fourth wall of the stage. The direction of the gaze without a frame becomes the choice of the individual, and the close proximity of the performers a privilege not witnessed before. The freedom of the gaze without a predefined frame in the 360° sphere addresses the new spectator, who actively engages from the role of observer to that of editor/director of his/her own experience of the film in a 360° environment. In perspective, it is a new, unexplored artistic genre, representing a contact between the past and the future.
