Snake River Kayak Portage Series - Lower Monumental Dam of the Columbia River Basin

This is part of a series that lays out the portaging of the 20 Snake river dams for a planned 1,100-mile expedition, paddling the Snake river from Yellowstone National Park to the Columbia River in Washington State. From the towering dams that block the river’s natural flow to the intense rapids and diverse terrain, this journey will push me to the absolute limits of my physical and mental endurance.
But before I even set foot in my kayak, I’ve got to tackle the immense task of planning this monumental trip. I spent a week traveling 2,700 miles, scouting each dam and portage.
