Nintendo Switch 2 Editions might be the most anti consumer pricing trend Nintendo has pushed in years. In this video, I break down why “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” upgrades are a slippery slope, why the price jumps feel ridiculous, and how this approach could normalize 80 dollar and even 90 dollar games. We talk about what these editions actually include, how Nintendo is treating small performance boosts and minor content additions like full priced relaunches, and why the value does not match what players are paying.

I cover the biggest offenders so far, including The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild Switch 2 Edition and The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Switch 2 Edition, plus examples like Kirby and the Forgotten Land Switch 2 Edition and Super Mario Party Jamboree Switch 2 Edition. I also discuss what this means for future releases and rumored upgrades like Super Mario Odyssey Switch 2 Edition and Pikmin 4 Switch 2 Edition, and why this could lead to fewer brand new games if Nintendo keeps leaning on upgraded re releases instead.

This is not a Nintendo hate video. I still think Nintendo makes incredible games, and I even think the Switch 2 hardware price can be fair. The problem is the precedent. Charging premium prices for older games with small upgrades, while refusing to discount the original versions, is the kind of decision that shifts the whole industry in a worse direction.
