In early 2024, Union Pacific announced that U.P. 4014, also commonly called the "Big Boy," the world's largest operating steam locomotive, would embark on an excursion service touring the western United States.

On June 30, 2024, the Westward Bound Tour began after the locomotive departed from Union Pacific’s Steam Shop in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Over the course of 27 days, U.P. 4014 traveled over 2,000 miles across five U.S. states, passing through cities such as Rock Springs, Evanston, Ogden, Salt Lake City, Elko, Winnemucca, Oroville, Roseville, Soda Springs, and Montpelier.
