The Toxic Life of Artificial Sugars (⚰️)
Alright, y’all, let’s break down the sweet stuff! Today, I’m talking all things sugar—natural sugars, artificial sweeteners, and natural sweeteners. Natural sugars like the ones in fruit, honey, and maple syrup? They’re basically made up of sucrose, glucose, and fructose. Fun fact: glucose is just sucrose and fructose together! Now, I know that’s not super important, but I just want y’all to understand. Even table sugar technically comes from natural sugar sources. The issue? Table sugar doesn’t come with the fiber, protein, and healthy fats you’d find in whole foods, which help your body process sugar the right way. When you eat sugar without those other nutrients, your body gets overwhelmed, and that’s where health problems like diabetes start popping up.
Now, artificial sweeteners—stuff like aspartame and sucralose. Here’s why I made this video: Someone on Threads asked me about sucralose (you know, that sugar-free stuff in drink mixes), and I realized we needed to dig deeper. Aspartame breaks down into methanol, which is used to make antifreeze and car fuel. That then breaks down into formaldehyde—yes, the stuff in embalming fluid. As for sucralose, they literally take sugar, strip out certain molecules, and replace them with chlorine. Your body can’t digest chlorine, so you don’t get calories from it. But hey, ‘sugar-free’ doesn’t mean healthy; it’s just smart marketing!
Then we have natural sweeteners, like monk fruit and stevia. These come from real sources—no lab needed! Monk fruit is my go-to because it’s from actual fruit and doesn’t have that aftertaste. Stevia? Y’all can have it. I bought some just for this video, but it’s not for me. I’ll gladly give this box away to whoever wants it!
And for a little extra fun, I tried making homemade Sprite. Spoiler alert: 2/10, do not recommend! But here’s the recipe if you’re feeling brave: 1 tbsp lemon juice, 1 tbsp lime juice, 1 cup carbonated water, and a little monk fruit to taste. Don’t blame me if you try it—it’s definitely a work in progress. But hey, kept y’all’s attention, didn’t I? 😆 #foodreview #science #sugar
