The Fender 70th Anniversary Vintera II Antigua Stratocaster struts some sun-kissed island style with its balmy ’burst and matching pickguard. But don’t get to comfy laying on the beach, because the Antigua’s 70th Anniversary Vintage-Style ’70s single-coils are primed for playing chunky rhythms and propulsive grooves.

“This guitar just sings,” says guitarist Rob Gueringer (a.k.a. Freaky Rob), who has played with Eminem, Cardi B, Kendrick Lamar, Megan Thee Stallion and others. “It sounds so amazing, and it’s really set up for you to dig in. The pickups sound punchy and round, which makes me want to play Nile Rodgers-style rhythms. Nile plays very percussive and light, so I go for pickup position two and the middle position for that sound. I’m also into Andy Summers of the Police, who often used delay and flanger effects to create these really cool, lush chord progressions. The Antigua is the guitar you’ll want to do that with.”

The Fender 70th Anniversary Vintera II Antigua Stratocaster also features an alder body, maple neck in a ’70s U shape, rosewood fretboard with a 7.25" radius, 21 vintage tall frets and a six-saddle Vintage-Style Strat strings-through-body hardtail bridge.

But let’s get back to the color.

“My favorite thing is the color,” says Gueringer. “I’ve seen a lot of vintage Antigua Strats from the ’70s period, and a lot of those finishes have faded to a light, cream-ish white color. But to see this color in its original form—brand new out of the case—is actually epic.”
