It's a wonderful story from great Indian epic Mahabharat giving lessons on diplomacy to the world, as Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar truly recognized. It shows how Shrikrishna handled his highly sensitive diplomatic mission with consummate finesse. Though as the incarnation of Bhagvan Narayan he knew for certain that the Kauravas would reject the pace proposal of Pandavas, he made every effort to make a success of it. He urged Dhritarasthra, and Duryadhana to accept the proposal for good of both parties and appealed to Kuru seniors to prevail on Duryodhan, but was unsuccessful Great rishis like Jamadagnya, Narad, Kanva and others were present in the Kuru court eager to witness how God carries out the diplomatic mission. Even they also advised Duryafhan and Dhritarashtra but their advice fell on deaf ears. Duryadhan gets enraged, as he accused Shrikrishna of being partisan in favour of Pandavas. He also offers logic from his standpoint but gets effectively countered by stronger arguments by Shrikrishna.

Shrikrishna appeals to Dhritarashtra to instruct his sons but the king clearly tries to dodge his responsibility by asking Shrikrishna himself to convince Duryadhan. By this Shrikrshna also proves to all that Dhritarasthra was not only blind in eye, but also morally blind by his affection for his son and he was not ready to act as per dharma. Dhritarashtra makes another attempt at evading his responsibility by calling his queen Gandhari to convince Duryadhan. The virtuous mother tries to persuade her son to act in a righteous way, but Duryadhan pays no heed.

The reader can understand with what dexterity Shrikrishna proves that Duryadhan was a greedy, jealous, and immoral person unfairly refusing the Pandavas what are legitimately theirs. All his persuasions and logic fail and Duryadhan makes it clear that he won't give even a pinch of earth that can cling to the edge of a sharp needle- Suchyagra Medini.

The storyline gets more intersting thereafter. Shrikrishna proves that not only Duryadhan has rejected the peace proposal but also the entire Kuru family, Kuru seniors, and other elderly ministers, Acharyas were not serious enough to prevail upon Duryadhan. Shrikrishna demonstrates that the Kauravas as a whole have rejected his diplomatic mission. Now morally and ethically Pandavas were free to resort to arms. He also hints that if he himself remained in the side of the Pandavas he could not be blamed, as he was on the side of the righteousness.

Shrikrishna finally threatens Duryadhan and Kauravas with the dire consequences of Kurukshetra war, how it might lead to the destruction of not only Kauravas but also numerous Kshatriya kings. Duryadhan gets enraged and hatches conspiracy with brother Duhshashan, uncle Shakuni and friend Karna to imprison Shrikrishna in the royal court itself. They discuss this very action would demoralise the Pandavas and they will give up all hope of recovering their kingdom.

This news gets leaked. Satyaki, a great warrior of Vishnis and escort of Shrikrishna asks another great warrior Kritavarma to take position at the main gate to ensure safe exit of their lord and he himself proceeds inside to give the news to Shrikrishna. Shrikrishna scoffs at such juvenile attempts and advises king Dhritarashtra to restrain his unworthy son. Then to the awe of all royals present in the court he exhibits his Vishwaroop, when the whole universe appears to be part of him. The Rishis became profoundly happy and they sing hymns of praise for Bhagvan Shrikrishna, while the numerous kings and ministers become awe-struck. Dhritarashtra, being born-blind, begs Shrikrsihna to grant him eyes, even if temporarily, so that he too can gratify his life by seeing the Viswaroop of the God. His prayer is granted and he witnesses this strange phenomenon.

As the whole court remains almost benumbed, Shrikrishna come out of the royal court and ascends his chariot which would be piloted by Daruk. Before his chariot starts some of the senior Kurus like Bhisma and others like Dronacharya and Kripa and other kings and nobles assemble to bid him farewell. He accepts their salutation and starts his return journey to the Pandava camp at Viratnagar. Thus ends one of the most exciting diplomatic missions ever recorded in human history and literature.
