Since I Laid My Burden Down:
A song with varying titles. It was probably written by a community rather than a singular songwriter. But we have no information on it's precise origin. It dates back to the spiritual songs of slavery and was probably used primarily as a song of mourning... a hymn that could be sung at funerals.

The first known recording was by The Elders McIntorsh and Edwards' Sanctified Singers (December 4, 1928 / 1929):    • Since I Laid My Burden Down -- The El...

When Mississippi John Hurt breathed new life into this song in 1964, he inspired generations to come with a simple and yet intimate way of interpreting these kinds of songs.    • Since I've Laid My Burdens Down Missi...

It was his version of 'Glory Glory' that set me on this journey of mine, singing and writing songs in the Roots Gospel genre.

I have another version on a recent album, Songs of The Maverick Saints. Featuring Linda McCrary
