After hitting a 24-year high in June, the construction industry last month grew at the slowest pace since February, after firms that had stockpiled materials in the first half of the year began to run low while others were unable to find enough workers to fulfil bulging order books.

Iain Mcilwee, CEO of Finishes and Interiors Sector will look at the impact of shortages in labour and materials on the finishes and interiors sector. How the supply chain needs to evolve to minimise the impact of delayed projects and increased costs, and a look at the risks shortages are creating for in terms of quality and maintaining specification.

Ruth Wilkinson will give a brief overview of how (i) existing standard forms (JCT and NEC) deal with issues of material availability and increased cost and (ii) some tips to manage risk and structure negotiations on your next contract including fluctuation clauses.

Ed Kendall, BMTFA member will discuss the erosion of the supply chain margins due to material shortages caused by COVID-19
