Welcome to Episode 168 of Norse, Myths, Legends, and Folktales. My name is MyLinda Butterworth and today we hear a tale about a man who saves a dragon, but in return the dragon would eat the man unless he could find someone who would agree with his lot in “The Way of the World.”

A man once went looking for wood to cut into hop-poles (a long, slender wooden pole used to train plants to grow up). He didn't find any, but while looking, he heard some moaning from under a rock. A cry for help. The man grabbed a long pole, made a lever, and raised the rock, and out from under the rock inside a hole emerged a dragon. The dragon had been there for centuries and was hungry for meat. The man begged for his life, and the dragon and the man agreed that they should get someone else to judge, for the man did not think that saving the dragon's life should be paid with him losing his life. So they asked an old hound dog and a skinny old horse, who both said that it was the way of the world. As we know, all good things come in threes, and the final creature they asked was a sly fox. How did the man fair with this third judge? You will need to listen in to hear the final outoome.
