France on Thursday held a grand celebration event for the upcoming New Year in its capital Paris with security measures stepped up for possible terrorist attacks.

Police deployed a total of 11,000 staff to guard the security around Paris while another 1,600 policemen and gendarmes patrolled on the streets and conducted security checks at Avenue des Champs-Elysees.

People needed to pass through strict security check before heading for the notable avenue.

For security concerns, police also shut down 11 surrounding subway stations.

"The security measures were strengthened and everything is all right. Security check covered every entrance and we're satisfied with it because we feel safe," said Chalbiaymel, a tourist from Tunis.

The New Year's Eve celebration, themed with "live together," delivered a positive message to the world that France survives terrorist attacks and fears and is proud of its lifestyle, through a five-minute long special video being projected to the Arch of Triumph.

"I hope that everyone is happy and lives for happiness and simple life. My hope is for everyone," said Martin Louis Ramon, French.

"Please stop war, we need a world without war, we need peace for all people. Happy New Year and have a nice night for you all," said Chalbiaymel.
