How to Enable Audio in Windows VPS

Sometimes you wish to play audio/video sound from your VPS, but you cannot due to the virtual nature of the server. Indeed, you cannot attach external speakers to VPS, but you can certainly route VPS audio/video sound to play via your local computer. You can achieve this by redirecting the VPS sound to the local computer via the Remote Desktop protocol. This video will show you how to enable audio in Windows VPS.

Step1: Enable Windows Audio service
RDP connect to your VPS and navigate to Services MMC (Start - Run - Services.msc);
Locate Windows Audio service and start it. (It is recommended to change the Startup Type to Automatic).

Step 2: Modify the Remote Desktop host configurations
a. Run gpedit.msc in Powershell or CMD
b. Go to Computer Configuration - Administrative Templates - Windows Components - Remote Desktop Services - Remote Desktop Session Host - Device and Resource redirection
c. Set "Allow Audio and Video Playback Redirection" to Enabled.
