In today's session we will learn how to use was and were in a sentence. These two words represent a simple concept when translated to Malayalam. In Malayalam was and were can be translated to ആയിരുന്നു . If the meaning of these words are the same, what is the difference between was and were? Was is used with singular subjects and were is used with plural subjects. Both of these words are used in past tense.
Let's take a look at a few examples.

അവൻ എന്റെ സുഹൃത്തായിരുന്നു.
He was my friend.

അതെന്റെ തെറ്റായിരുന്നു .
It was my mistake.

രാധിക ഒരു dancer ആയിരുന്നു
Radhika was a dancer.

അവരെന്റെ കൂട്ടുകാർ ആയിരുന്നു.
They were my friends.

അവർ ക്രിക്കറ്റ് കളിക്കാരായിരുന്നു.
They were cricket players.

ഞങ്ങൾ ക്ലാസ്സ്‌മേറ്റ്സ് ആയിരുന്നു.
We are classmates.

അവൻ ഒരു പുസ്തകം വായിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.
He was reading a book.

അമൽ ആരോടാ സംസാരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.
Amal was talking to someone.

ഞാൻ tv കാണുകയായിരുന്നു.
I was watching TV.

അവർ ലഞ്ച് കഴിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.
They were having lunch.

ഞങ്ങൾ വീട്ടിലേക്കു തിരിച്ചു വരികയായിരുന്നു.
We were coming back home.

എന്റെ കൂട്ടുക്കാർ കളിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു.
My friends were playing.
