French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou has narrowly survived a no-confidence vote in the French Parliament, after the far-left opposition's challenge failed to secure enough support. The vote, related to the controversial passage of the 2025 budget, was seen as a test of Bayrou’s leadership following his decision to invoke Article 49.3 of the French Constitution, which allows the government to pass legislation without a parliamentary vote. Despite intense criticism, Bayrou has defended the budget as an urgent step for France's future, describing it as "imperfect" but necessary.

The motion, introduced by far-left lawmakers, was rejected by key members of the New Popular Front (NFP), a left-wing coalition. Socialists, who are part of this coalition, voted against the motion, citing a decision of responsibility to ensure stability for the country’s budget.
