- RDS offers 2 types of backup options: Automated Backups and Database Snapshots
- By default, RDS creates Automated Backups of your DB instance, and saves them securely in Amazon S3 for a user-specified retention period.
- You can also manually create Database Snapshots, which are user-initiated backups of your instance that are kept until you explicitly delete them.
