This is LEGO model 487 “Space Cruiser” from the original Space Collection. Research shows this was released in 1978 and consisted of about 170 pieces. It was also released as the European version model 924 “Space Transporter”. This is one of three main space ships that have a similar design (small, medium, and large) in that period. This is part of a private collection consisting of every LEGO Space model between 1978 and 1981. The collection was limited to this period because of the simplicity and style. After this period more complex pieces and additional color combinations were introduced as the line continues to evolve. Most of this collection was purchased at the time each kit was released. The remaining kits were purchased more recently to complete the collection.

This is a great kit with two spacemen, yellow/gold windows, windshields, and lifting cockpit hatch, a rear section that opens and holds removable cargo, and a spring-activated forklift to load and unload the cargo. It has the ship number “LL924” and the classic planet icons; a large color planet on the front and two small classic planet logos on the sides. Other fun details include the arrow icons near the thrusters, green and red navigation lights, yellow and black wing markers near the cockpit, a rear antenna, and the classic computer panel and computer screen behind the steering wheel. The cargo case even holds a single round transparent green light piece - classic LEGO attention to detail.
