The Lokpal, once seen as India’s biggest hope against corruption, is now making headlines for all the wrong reasons. Recently, a tender was issued to purchase seven BMW 3-Series Long Wheelbase cars — each worth around ₹70 lakh, totaling nearly ₹5 crore. The same institution that was created to keep a check on government corruption now seems to be living in royal luxury.

The video takes a deep dive into how the Lokpal — meant to be the protector of the people — has turned into a symbol of power and privilege. Despite having the authority to investigate corruption charges against ministers, MPs, and even the Prime Minister, the Lokpal has done little to inspire public confidence. In six years, it has received nearly 7,000 complaints, but ordered investigations in just seven cases — most of them minor ones involving bank officers.

Meanwhile, five complaints have been filed against Prime Minister Modi, but not one has led to any visible action. In contrast, the Lokpal has been swift when it comes to opposition leaders like Mahua Moitra and Shibu Soren.

Once a movement born out of the fight against corruption, the Lokpal now stands accused of being silent, selective, and submissive to power. And as it prepares to cruise in luxury BMWs, the question remains — is the Lokpal still the guardian of the people, or just another face of privilege?
