Today, in our sports encyclopedia series we will talk about Camel Racing.
Camel Racing is a professional event in desert regions of Middle Eastern countries where camels are raced for bets.
The distance of these races varies from region to region.
The objective for each camel in the race is to finish the distance in the shortest duration.
All the camels are aligned in the starting position before the beginning of the race.
The race begins and all the camels rush towards the finish line.
These camels are controlled by child jockeys who sit at their back and direct them.
Children are preferred for this job because of their lightweight.
In short sprints, the camels manage to maintain a speed of 65 km/h.
In long sprints where races continue for hours, they can maintain a speed of around 40 km/h for an hour.
At the end of the race, the camel who manages to cross the finishing line first is declared the winner.
