In a dramatic turn of events, former A-dor CEO Min-Hee-jin is facing serious allegations of illegal tampering in the ongoing legal battle between NewJeans and their former agency, A-dor. The accusations stem from an investigation into NJZ’s decision to terminate their contracts with A-dor, a move that has now raised questions about Min's involvement.
On March 7, the first round of interrogations took place at the Seoul Central District Court. During the proceedings, A-dor presented documents that suggested that Min-Hee-jin and her legal team, at Sejeong Law Firm were involved in the process of NJZ notifying A-dor about the contract termination. Specifically, a termination notice sent by NJZ was found to have been authored by the Sejeong Law Firm. The document’s metadata revealed that it had been created using a corporate account, S&K,” which raised eyebrows given that NJZ had previously stated they hadn't appointed legal counsel at the time.
The timeline of events is critical in this case. On November 28, 2024, just one day before NJZ's public announcement of their contract termination with A-dor, the group held an emergency press conference. At that time, they claimed to have not yet hired legal representation. However, in January 2025, NJZ officially named Sejeong Law Firm as their legal counsel, citing their familiarity with the firm from past disputes involving A-dor and Hybe.
A-dor also pointed out the timeline of events to establish the allegation of tampering against Min-Hee-jin. NJZ formally requested corrective actions from A-dor on November 14, 2024, and on November 20, Min-Hee-jin resigned as A-dor's CEO. Then, on November 28, NJZ announced the contract termination before the deadline for responding to their request for corrective action, which was November 29 at midnight.
A-dor's legal team presented key evidence, including Kakaotalk conversations and emails recovered from Min Hee Jin’s phone. Some of these messages contained strikingly similar language to statements made in a prior case between A-dor and Sejeong Law Firm in May 2024. A-dor also pointed out an inconsistency in NJZ's filings, an outdated reference to early this year” instead of the correct early last year”, which raised further suspicions about the integrity of the termination process.
The case hinges on whether Min-Hee-jin’s actions amount to tampering, a serious accusation that could potentially alter the outcome of the court's injunction decision. Tampering refers to a third party interfering with an artist’s contract without the agency’s consent while the contract is still in effect. If the court finds the allegations to be true, it could have far-reaching consequences for the lawsuit.
The court will reconvene on March 14 to conclude its hearing, with both sides expected to submit final evidence and statements. NJZ's legal team has also been asked to reorganize and submit a detailed list of reasons for terminating their exclusive contract with A-dor.
