Описание к видео Silicon Valley workers rebel as tech billionaires embrace Trump’s agenda

(13 Apr 2025)
RESTRICTION SUMMARY:

ASSOCIATED PRESS
San Jose, California - 5 April 2025
1. Various anti-tech CEO protest signs including "Hands off our Data"
2. SOUNDBITE (English) Sam H., Tech worker:
"We've been seeing a lot of these CEOs like Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, really cozy up with the far right, cozy up with Donald Trump, because what they're trying to do is they're trying to get in bed with Trump and his far-right agenda. And they're trying to do this so that they can gain more power and influence in the government and increase their profits. But these things are, of course, hurting the American people, but they're also hurting the tech workers that are working under them."
3. Various marchers holding protest signs and chanting
4. SOUNDBITE (English) Dianne Wood, Tech worker:
"I'm terrified about the divide of income in this country. I think some of it is in tech leaders. It's in other leaders as well, but the money's all shifting to the wealthiest and that terrifies me. I mean, money's getting taken away from the families, the people that need it and these changes that we're seeing, they're taking away more and more programs that are needed by the people of this country and unfortunately you've got the Zuckerbergs and the Elons and the others of the world that are taking that over, and it's truly scary."
5. Various marchers holding anti-Elon Musk signs
6. SOUNDBITE (English) Stephen Schleimer, Retired Tech worker:
"In tech, it was always, we're really not political. What we really are is technologically driven. Sometimes not so smartly technologically driven because we don't consider the consequences all the time. But always it was supposed to be for the betterment of humanity. And now it's for the benefit of me. Not me personally, unfortunately. Well, no, it's just as well. And that's simply not where I came out and not where an awful lot of others came out."
7. Protesters hold signs criticizing Elon Musk
8. SOUNDBITE (English) Kamal Ali, Tech Worker:
"I'm totally feeling betrayed because I feel like Trump, Musk, maybe the same neurons, they came across as pro-environment and now all these people bought Teslas thinking he's doing something good for the environment and all of a sudden he's done a 180 degree turn. I think the trust is broken. A lot of employees are very upset at what's going on. And yeah, it's going to be different forever, I think."
9. "404 Error" sign, "Government Not Found"
STORYLINE:
Silicon Valley tech workers, once largely apolitical, are increasingly joining protests in response to the growing influence of pro-Trump sentiment among industry leaders.

A recent demonstration in San Jose highlighted a shift in tone, marked by fear, caution, and the absence of prominent tech executives who had once stood with workers but now align with Trump.

This divide between top tech elites and the broader workforce reflects a deeper cultural transformation, from idealistic innovation to profit-driven conservatism.

Many everyday workers remain liberal but feel disillusioned, betrayed, and anxious about the direction of both the industry and the country.

While Silicon Valley still leans heavily Democratic, there has been a noticeable political shift, especially among billionaires.

Long-held values of activism and progress now clash with rising inequality, corporate consolidation, and the perceived erosion of democratic norms.

The mood among workers is one of broken trust and growing resistance.
