In today's episode, Christian sits down with Denis Frison, one of the foremost bespoke menswear designers currently working in New York and Los Angeles, to talk clothing, lifestyle, and, most importantly, watches.
Denis has long had a passion for vintage things, be it clothing, memorabilia, or watches. Much of his collection comes down to vintage Rolex, including a two-tone, black dial/bezel GMT Master, an oxblood dial, yellow gold Day-Date, and a classic Explorer. He also very passionately collects Swatch. Among his Swatch collection is a Nautilus, a very different, far more colorful timepiece than its Patek Philippe namesake. He also owns a Jellyfish reinterpretation, a 4EVERFEVER, a Caution, and his personal favorite, the Metrica.
His passion for vintage clothing and vintage Americana is just as prevalent. Denis owns a vintage leather jacket by Playboy Special, a company owned in part by Playboy founder Hugh Hefner. To his mind, there's something inherently dichotomous about most men - on the one hand, there is the need and desire to conform, to follow the rules and respect tradition, and on the other, there's the overwhelming compulsion to defy those same rules and define a truly unique identity. He does this in his clothes, in his watch collecting, and in his life, and its a lesson we can all learn from.
