Ted Czech, public information officer for the York County Office of Emergency Management, sat down with Jeff Jumper of the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency to discuss his role in the Feb. 22, 2025 officer-involved shooting at UPMC Memorial Hospital. The incident began as an active shooter/hostage situation and ended as police killed the suspect, while West York Borough Police Officer Andrew Duarte was killed by friendly fire.

In this interview, Czech recounts the events of the day and the role he played as PIO, in hopes that others may learn from his experiences.
