How To Play Hey Joe On Drums | Mitch Mitchell | Improvising

A lot of us spend too much time trying to learn how to play the drums off charts, attempting to copy note-for-note off a transcription. But this isn't conservatory music where we're channeling the wishes of a bunch of dead guys with funny wigs. This is rock n' roll.

Let's learn how to play Hey Joe by understanding the structure of the song and imitating what needs to be and improvising the rest. Let's develop vocabulary and use it freely and expressively.
And by all means learn stuff note-for-note if that's what floats your boat. But it's not how the music was made and is not the way I'd recommend learning a lot of stuff.
