In this video, I found some thicker paper in the form of Christmas cards and last year's calendar, as well as some other items, and upcycled it with embroidery. I always feel a little bad just getting rid of cute Christmas cards, painting exercises or fun calendars, but heavy weight paper is great as a background for simple embroidery. You likely won't be able to use every embroidery technique on paper, since it does like to rip, but simple outlining stitches and even French knots work great! This is a fun way to practice your embroidery, since paper doesn't really feel too precious, so you can play around without worrying about ruining anything!
