The government has confirmed new limits on gifts and meals that can be accepted by civil servants and other workers in fields such as journalism... where ethical standards are deemed to have extra importance.
Those limits will come into effect toward the end of this month.

The nation's Cabinet on Tuesday confirmed the new law's limits on gifts and meals.
Public officials, journalists, school teachers and other public-sector employees will not be allowed to accept meals worth more than 30-thousand won -- or about 27 U.S. dollars.
For gifts, the limit is 45 dollars, and when giving cash at occasions like weddings and funerals, the cap is set at 90 dollars.

The anti-graft law also puts strict limits on how much civil servants can charge for speeches.
Minister-level officials... can accept a maximum of about 450 dollars per hour,... while for regular staff-level civil servants... the limit is less than 180 dollars per hour.
The law also caps speaking fees for journalists and private school teachers... at 9-hundred dollars an hour.
The anti-corruption law will affect almost 41-thousand institutions,... over 95 percent of which are schools and media corporations.
Some of the institutions affected have strongly opposed the law,... unoffically called the Kim Young-ran Act... after the then-chair of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission who proposed it. The Act was challenged in the nation's Constitutional Court,... which ruled in July to uphold it.
First proposed four years ago,... it's now undergone all the necessary legal procedures and will take effect on September 28th.
