As Afghanistan descended into Civil War during the late 1980s and early 1990s, thousands of SCUDs were used to combat factions vying for power over the mountainous, rugged land. It is somewhat jarring to consider that a country whose population’s way of life had changed so little for thousands of years should find itself using a weapon designed with the technology employed in the early space race but not only that, that they would become the subject of the most sustained ballistic missile campaign since the V-2 rocket attacks on London in World War II.
