LESSON 13:

Schrödinger’s Cat is a famous thought experiment that I believe truly illustrates how quantum mechanics works and why it’s so weird.
We tend to think that things exist regardless if we see it or not. But on the quantum level, things behave differently whether the person is looking at it or not. That itself blows my mind, and Schrödinger wanted to test this out.
In the experiment, the cat in the box is actually both dead and alive at the same time, called superposition. Using a cat as the subject shows how ridiculous the paradox of quantum superposition is.
How is the cat both dead and alive?
If you put a cat in a box with something that could kill it (a radioactive atom in this case), you would not know if the cat ended up dead or alive until you open and check in the box. The cat’s fate is linked that radioactive subatomic event that may or may not occur. Therefore, the cat is both dead and alive.
