Nearby is the huge, modern Sacred Heart Cathedral. Mandagadde Bird Sanctuary is home to species such as egrets and cormorants. The Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary shelters elephants, tigers and panthers. Northwest of Shimoga are the powerful, towering Jog Falls.
