The land encompassed within the Northwest Georgia Research and Education Center in Rome, Georgia was transferred to the UGA College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences in 1966 from the state health department. This 905 acres of land provides the opportunity to perform valuable beef cattle, forage, and row crop research. It is also home to the Calhoun Bull Evaluation and the Calhoun Heifer Evaluation and Reproductive Development (HERD) Programs. While the Northwest Georgia Research and Education Center is located in Rome, the office and Northwest Georgia Livestock Pavilion are located in Calhoun. Eight full time and one part time employee ensure that the Northwest Georgia Research and Education Center remains a facility that provides quality research opportunities.
