The aldosterone produced by this gland which sits on top of kidneys basically affects the potassium levels and it controls the blood pressure. Aldosterone is produced by the zona glomerulosa, which is the outermost layer of the adrenal cortex. The production of aldosterone is regulated by the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system (RAAS).

Aldosterone helps to reduce blood pressure by regulating the balance of electrolytes, specifically sodium and potassium, in the body. When aldosterone is released from the adrenal gland, it acts on the kidneys to increase the reabsorption of sodium ions and water back into the bloodstream. This increase in the volume of fluid in the bloodstream leads to an increase in blood pressure.
Aldosterone also acts on the kidneys to increase the secretion of potassium ions into the urine, which helps to maintain the balance of electrolytes.

When the adrenal gland is not able to produce enough aldosterone, the body will have low levels of this hormone.

Low levels of aldosterone can lead to a number of symptoms including:

Hypotension (low blood pressure) due to decreased retention of sodium and water in the body, leading to decreased blood volume
Hyperkalemia (high potassium levels) because aldosterone normally helps to excrete potassium ions, so in its absence potassium levels can become dangerously high
Fatigue, nausea, and dehydration due to decreased blood flow and blood pressure
Darkening of the skin due to pigmentation caused by an increase in melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH)
Increased salt cravings due to the body's attempt to raise blood pressure by retaining sodium
