How are Fluidized Zone Mixers revolutionizing the mixing industry today?

Mixers have been part of our culture since times immemorial. Some of the earliest mixers include drum and ribbon mixers which are also a part of our technology today.

Some of the problems faced while using the old technology mixers are:
They become more complex and expensive as the number of minor ingredients in the final mix keeps reducing to achieve the quality of the final mix. As the process got complex not only there were technical challenges but economically also they were not feasible.

We know in order to achieve a good mix, the mixer should be able to transport the fluid and should avoid segregation at all cost. And if heat buildup & product degradation are also concerns, then one should mix them quickly. It has been observed that after experimenting on various mixers, they were able to fulfill some of the criteria but not all.

Mixer should try to move each particle in relation to all the other particles, with no dead spots in the mixer. A good mixer should provide the particle movement in all directions. Another issue is segregation, it mainly occurs due to difference in the particle size, density, and shape of which former plays an important role. Segregation not only needs to be accounted during the mixing but also during the discharge through the mixer. One of the way to defeat segregation is if one achieves the weightless process or stage during mixing.

The fluidized zone mixer was developed keeping in mind all the above problems. In fluidized mixers, a series of paddles are mounted on the two parallel shafts. The shafts rotate in opposite direction. The position of paddles creates a very efficient transport system of the particles.

The paddles fluidize the entire particle stream and create a weightless system in the center of the mixer. The paddles mix the material thoroughly before they have a chance to segregate. The fluidized mixer uses mass-flow techniques to discharge the material in few seconds, reducing the segregation.

Few of the advantages of fluidized zone mixer are precision mixing, low heat generation and degradation, control over segregation and economical as well.
