GREATER MIAMI SYMPHONIC BAND is delighted to present Rodgers and Hart’s great standard, BLUE MOON. This performance features the Band’s string bass player, Susie Blank Wolfe singing a terrific arrangement by Warren Barker.

Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart wrote BLUE MOON in the 1930s. Hart’s lyrics paint a vivid picture of unrequited love against the backdrop of a celestial phenomenon, the blue moon. Rodgers breathed life into those lyrics, creating a melody that resonates with longing and desire. The song was first featured in the 1937 Hollywood musical, the motion picture ”Hollywood Hotel”.

Arranger Warren Barker was a prolific Hollywood music composer and arranger, with numerous hits for television, stage and movies. One highlight of Barker's work in television was seven years as composer-conductor for the highly rated comedy series, "Bewitched". Barker was a longtime friend of GMSB, and he wrote some outstanding arrangements specifically for GMSB.

Over the years, BLUE MOON has become a standard in the Great American Songbook. It's been performed by countless artists, each infusing the song with their unique style and interpretation. From the soulful crooning of Frank Sinatra to the velvety-smooth voice of Ella Fitzgerald, it has left an indelible mark on the hearts of music lovers worldwide.
