This World War II narrative follows Sergeant Jimmy Crawford and the segregated 782nd Quartermaster Truck Company in the Philippines, September 1944. With American troops pinned down 20 miles north without supplies, Crawford's diverse unit—composed of Black soldiers, Japanese Americans, and Chinese Americans—faces an impossible mission: deliver critical supplies through enemy territory despite fuel shortages, impassable roads, and Japanese forces.
Crawford assembles a three-truck convoy for a dangerous night run along the coastal route. The story explores the personal struggles of soldiers like Corporal Marcus Bell (a Harlem jazz pianist), Sergeant Roy Tanaka (fighting to prove his loyalty while his family is interned), and others who must overcome both enemy threats and the racism of a segregated military. As they prepare to depart at 2200 hours, these men attempt to prove their worth and redefine American logistics through courage, ingenuity, and unity across racial lines.
