Are you aware of how you approach your writing? Do you just go for it? What is your breathing like? Are you aware of the cadence of breath in tandem with the marks you make with the writing implement?

At the CLAS AGM on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024, I spent a lot of time demonstrating ‘Fraktur and its attendant Flourishing’.

A big part of the demos was spent talking about the pace of writing and why we need to slow down much more than we think.

Writing in tandem with the breath is so important. This is where we can connect with the peace of the practise.

But for those who do not practise this wonderful craft, watching a calligrapher write and breathing slowly and carefully can also bring a sense of peace, calm and joy.
