Today's In Depth focuses on the need for solar energy as the cleaner, green and cost-effective way of meeting our energy needs. Energy consumption has nearly doubled in India since 2000, and is expected to grow manifold over the next few decades. Realising the magnitude of the challenge, the government has embarked upon an ambitious effort to increase its renewable energy production. At the first International Solar Alliance in Delhi recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined a 10-point action plan that is intended to bring about a solar energy revolution in the country.
