Belgium 2022-01-23: Packrafting Lesse Moyenne

Day 2 of a packrafting overnighter in the Belgian Ardennes with Joery, Peter and Evert. On today’s program is a descent of the middle reaches of the river Lesse, from Daverdisse to Chanly. With overcast skies and a temperature of 5°C, weather is quite similar to yesterday.

We put in at 11 am at the Barbouillons bridge and enjoy a reasonably good flow. In contrast to yesterday on the river Houille, we only have to carry around one single fallen tree, close to the put-in. The rest of the trajectory is all passable, although sometimes a bit tight at partially obstructed passages.

We take a break for lunch around halfway and then leave the forest for a more open pastoral landscape. We jump the weir at the Mahy saw mill and take out at 1:30 pm, quite a bit sooner than expected.
