The John Innes Centre is an independent, international centre of excellence in plant science and microbiology.

We receive funding from the UK Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) for four research areas that directly address BBSRC strategic objectives in;

Food security
Human health
Industrial biotechnology

We are proud winners of the BBSRC's Excellence with Impact award.

In recognition of our plant science research having real impact in the real world, from inspiring young people to take up a career in science to collaborating with scientists in Africa on important global research, the John Innes Centre has been awarded half a million pounds in prize money for our culture of excellence and impact.

The money will, of course be put straight back into supporting even more essential research to continue our fantastic work.
