New Bedford man held without bail in 2005 killing of woman

A New Bedford man was charged with murder in a 2005 cold case, the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office announced on Thursday.

A Bristol County grand jury indicted 62-year-old Simao Farias in the murder of Suzanna Alvarado, and he was arrested on Wednesday night.

Farias pleaded not guilty at his arraginment in Fall River District Court. He was ordered held without bail.

"It's all very gratifying to see individuals who are walking around as killers for how many years -- 20 , 30, 40, 50? So, I think there's a particular satisfaction if someone is charged and brought to justice," said Bristol District Attorney Tom Quinn.
